Women's Volleyball Wins at Pacific in Four Sets

Box Score STOCKTON, California – The Pepperdine women's volleyball team won its fourth straight match with a four-set victory at Pacific (15-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-17) in West Coast Conference play on Thursday evening.
 
The Waves improved to 10-8 overall and 6-1 in the WCC, good for third place, while dropping the Tigers to 11-8, 3-4.
 
BIG WAVES
  • Sophomore opposite Rachel Ahrens (Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Tesoro HS) led the Waves with 14 kills while hitting .321 (14-5-28), and she had four blocks.
  • Senior middle blocker Tarah Wylie (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral HS) collected 11 kills on .409 hitting (11-2-22) along with a match-high eight blocks.
  • Senior outside hitter Hannah Frohling (Edmond, Okla./Edmond North HS) got a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
  • Junior outside hitter Shannon Scully (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS/Utah) was held to six kills but also 10 digs and three blocks.
  • Freshman setter Isabel Zelaya (Tomball, Texas/Concordia Lutheran HS) handed out 36 assists and contributed on four blocks.
  • Senior libero Hana Lishman (Kailua, Hawai'i/Punahou School) accumulated a match-high 19 digs.
MATCH STATS 
  • PEPP hitting: .248 overall (.143 set one, .467 set two, .241 set three, .161 set four)
  • PAC hitting: .129 overall (.441 set one, .300 set two, negative-.128 set three, negative-.028 set four)
  • Service Aces: PEPP 6, PAC 3
  • Digs: PEPP 53, PAC 53
  • Blocks: PEPP 12.0, PAC 7.0
  • Pacific was led by Riley Patterson's 18 kills.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
 
The Tigers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in set one and never looked back. At 11-8, Pacific scored four straight. At 19-13, the Tigers got six of the final eight points to claim the first set.
 
Pacific led 6-5 in set two but Pepperdine then scored four straight points, including an ace by Lishman, to take the lead for good. At 10-9, the Waves got their first of what would be three 3-0 runs down the stretch. Back-to-back service aces by Scully made it 21-12. A kill by Wylie eventually ended the set.
 
Set three was tied at 11-11 but the Waves were dominant the rest of the set, going on a 13-2 run, including the final eight points of the set. Wylie had a kill and was part of four blocks during the set-ending run. The Waves held the Tigers to negative-.128 hitting for the set.
 
Pacific's last lead in set four came at 7-6 as the Waves then went on a 6-1 run, which included four Pacific attack errors. Wylie was in on a pair of blocks that later made it 17-11 as part of a 5-0 run that increased the lead to 19-11, and the Waves went on to finish off the match from there. Pacific hit in negative figures for the second straight set.

The Waves continue this Northern California weekend trip with a match at Saint Mary's on Saturday (Oct. 19) at 1 p.m. The matchup will be shown online via the WCC Network.
