WAVEPOINTS
• Lorenzo Romar's second stint as head coach at Pepperdine begins on Wednesday with the home and season opener against Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills.
• Romar enters the 2018-19 season with 391 career wins, nine shy of a milestone 400.
• This is the 81st season of Pepperdine basketball.
• Because of differences between NCAA Division I and II rules, the Waves will count this as a real game, while the Toros will consider it an exhibition.
• In games that double as the season and home opener since 1944-45, the Waves' record is 32-10 (and 18-4 in Firestone Fieldhouse).
• Colbey Ross is coming off a debut season that saw him set the Pepperdine freshman record for assists and earn All-WCC honorable mention and WCC All-Freshman team honors.
• The Waves return their top three scorers from last season, with Kameron Edwards and Eric Cooper Jr. joining Ross, but only six players in all who saw action last year are back.
• Only two Waves — Edwards and Kaijae Yee-Stephens — have seen playing time for the Waves in two previous seasons.
• Returning players accounted for 59.4% of last year's points.
• As many as nine freshmen (two redshirts and seven true freshmen) could make their Pepperdine debuts on Wednesday night.
• Pepperdine's five true freshmen scholarship players all earned Cal-Hi Sports all-state honors, while four were All-CIF and two were CIF Southern Section players of the year.
• The Waves hope to stay healthy after being decimated by injuries the last two years. They lost 99 player-games in 2016-17 and 81 in 2017-18.
• Pepperdine stays at home this weekend with a game against CSUN on Saturday night.
TICKETS — Single-game tickets for most Pepperdine home games are $25 for reserved seating, $15 for adult general admission and $12 for child general admission. Select premium games are $30, $20 and $12, respectively. Tickets are available via PepperdineWaves.com or by calling (310) 506-4935.
PEPPERDINE — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). The Waves have produced 205 conference championships, 318 All-Americans and 53 Olympians. Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #46 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
