Women's Soccer Hosts BYU on Saturday

MALIBU, California — Coming off its biggest win of the season, the Pepperdine women's soccer team heads into the season's homestretch looking for more victories. They have another big home game this Saturday against BYU, which is currently in first place in the West Coast Conference.
MATCH #15 — Saturday (October 13) at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in Malibu, California: Pepperdine (7-6-1, 2-1-1) vs. BYU (8-3-1, 3-0-0) at 1 p.m.

OPPONENT — Pepperdine is 5-4-0 all-time against BYU and has won two straight and three of the last four. The Waves have won three of four meetings in Malibu. Last year in Provo, Joelle Anderson scored both goals in a 2-1 victory. BYU, which has won four straight and seven of eight, is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
LAST WEEK — Brielle Preece was named WCC Player of the Week on Monday after helping the Waves to four points while collecting four saves in both home games. On Friday, Brie Welch scored in the first half, but San Francisco countered with an equalizer in the 88th minute, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. But on Sunday, the Waves knocked off then-#4 Santa Clara 1-0, ending the Broncos' eight-game unbeaten streak while defeating SCU at home for the 10th straight time. Preece stopped a penalty kick in the 40th minute, and Meghan Healy came off the bench to score her first career goal in the 44th minute.
NOTABLE — All four of Joelle Anderson's goals this season have been game-winners ... Anderson is tied for second in the WCC in game-winning goals and is eighth in goals per game (0.36) ... Hailey Stenberg and Brie Welch are the only other Waves to score multiple goals this year with two apiece ... Brielle Preece is second in the WCC at 0.50 shutouts per game ... In the WCC team rankings, Pepperdine is first in shutouts (0.50) and third in goals-against average (0.98) ... Twelve players have missed at least one game due to injury, eight of which have started a game this season ... Pepperdine has had nine players make their first career starts, and 10 of the 27 players that have seen action have been true freshmen or redshirt freshmen ... All seven wins this season have been by shutout (12 of 14 games this season have involved a shutout).
