Gross Garners Second-Career WCC Weekly Award

MALIBU, Calif. — Sophomore Jasmine Gross of the Pepperdine women's volleyball garnered her second-career West Coast Conference Player of the Week nod, as announced by the league office on Monday morning. Gross led the Waves with double-figure kills in all four matches this week and added her second-ever double-double with 15 kills and 10 blocks against Nevada on Saturday.

The Waves went 3-1 throughout the week, with a 3-1 win over Long Beach State at home on Tuesday and a 2-1 output at the Nevada Wolf Pack Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Gross' (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) 15 kills on the second two matches of the week tied her career-best kill effort. Throughout the weekend, the middle blocker averaged 4.00 kills/set, 1.79 blocks/set, 0.86 digs/set, 0.29 aces/set and 0.29 assists/set after 14 sets played. She hit for a .404 success rate with 56 smashes and only 10 errors on 114 swings. The sophomore also amassed 25 total blocks with three solo rejections, four aces and 12 digs towards the Waves' effort.

In the first match of the week, a four-set win over Long Beach, Gross marked 13 kills on a .480 hitting percentage, and added seven blocks including one solo, one ace, four digs and two assist. It was the first time the Waves had defeated the 49ers since 1984 as LBSU had gone on a 14-match winning streak since.

In the Wolf Pack Tournament against Missouri, she posted 13 kills on a .310 output, with two aces, four block assists and three digs. Then, in the sweep over Sacramento State, Gross tied her career-high 15 kills on a .577 hitting percentage, while adding four blocks including one solo denial, one ace and three digs. In the final four-set win over Nevada, Gross marked another tied career-high kill effort with 15 smashes on a .295 clip. She added a season-high 10 blocks to compete the double-double including one solo block.
