TUCSON, Ariz. — The Pepperdine women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Arizona in the McKale Center to close out the Wildcat Invitational this Saturday night. The Waves fell 25-14, 25-12 and 25-17 to finish the tournament 2-1.
Freshmen Hana Lishman (Kailua, Hawai'i/Punahou) and Jasmine Gross (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) were named to the Wildcat Invitational All-Tournament team.
The Wildcats were heavy on the attack with 35 kills on a .248 hitting percentage, compared to the Waves 24 kills on 109 swings. Arizona posted 11.0 team blocks and two aces against Pepperdine's 8.0 team blocks and one ace on the night.
The back row was the highlight throughout the night for the Waves as Lishman led the team with 17 digs and junior Ashley Morgan (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Canyon HS) was good for 12 digs and one kill.
Freshman Hannah Frohling (Edmond, Okla./Edmond North HS) led the Waves with six kills on the night. She added five digs and one block as well.
Arizona came out strong in the first set, amassing a 7-0 lead before a kill by sophomore Heidi Dyer (San Clemente, Calif./Saddleback Valley Christian HS) gave the Waves the team's first point of the night. The momentum stayed in the Wildcats' court, however, as the home team posted a 25-14 win.
The second set was similar to the first, with the Wildcats putting a 10-2 lead on the board. Arizona continued to produce points, amassing a 25-12 set win to go up 2-0 on the night.
The Waves jumped out to their first lead of the night early in the third set, putting up a 6-5 lead early. Arizona overcame the lead soon after, however, leading 17-10 in the middle of the set. Pepperdine was unable to rally back, falling 25-17 to close out the night.
