Baseball Drops Series Finale Against San Francisco

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine baseball (18-28, 12-9 WCC) fell by a final of 2-0 in Sunday's series finale against the San Francisco Dons (22-23, 13-8 WCC).
"Today was bittersweet," said Head Coach Tyler LaTorre. "On one hand, what a great day for our seniors to celebrate their accomplishments. Their steadfast love for Waves Baseball has shown throughout their careers. They have left a legacy here that will be left for years to come. I am indebted to their belief in me and our vision of where we are headed."
"On the other hand, we dropped another home conference series," continued LaTorre. "Collin Valentine pitched a great game! He did everything right, we just couldn't get anything going offensively. To be able to throw two seniors on Senior day in Valentine and Dylan Stewart, and to have them throw as well as they did, was so good to see."
The southpaw Valentine had one of his best starts as a Wave, going 6.2 innings while allowing only one earned run on six hits. He walked a pair but struck out three. His only true blemish came in the third inning on a Jared Lewis RBI single that plated Jayden Garrison.
Tyler Harries tacked on a RBI single to shallow left in the top of the ninth, scoring Trevor Harmon, and that insurance run was enough to keep Pepperdine at bay.
"We need to be more competitive offensively," added LaTorre. "Play with more energy and urgency. We have two series left and we control our own destiny in the WCC tournament race. We just need to play our brand of baseball, let the scoreboard take care of itself. We are looking forward to washing this loss off quickly and traveling north to take on UCSB Tuesday before hosting Portland this weekend. We will be prepared like any other week with an attentional detail and a team-first mentality."

Five different Waves sprayed the six Pepperdine hits. The Waves' best opportunity to score was in the sixth. Julian Nunez delivered a sac bunt to get Daniel Patterson, who had a leadoff walk, to second base. He was ultimately picked off at second, and following hits by Joshua Woodworth and Trey Dunn, Kai Laxa ended the inning. Pepperdine's offense was relatively quiet all day, going one-two-three in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings in the 2-0 loss.Congratulations to our Head Coach @tylerlatorre on his 100th career game at Pepperdine! 💯#MakeWaves | @PepperdineWaves pic.twitter.com/qGkqxty3dN
