SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The regular season is winding out for Pepperdine baseball as the Waves (21-29, 15-9 WCC) rolled up highway five to Santa Clara to take on the Broncos (22-28, 10-14 WCC) this weekend.

On the other hand, the Broncos sit only a game back of Portland and Seattle for the final spot in the conference tournament. The path is significantly easier for Santa Clara, since they own the head-to-head tiebreaker over both Portland and Seattle. The Broncos have caught fire, winning five straight and six of their last seven.
The Waves will remain focused on controlling their own destiny as Pepperdine sends Casey Euper to the mound on Thursday evening. The southpaw tied Tommy Scavone last week for the most wins on the team (5), while the blue and orange have won three out of his last four outings, including four of the previous six. Euper made it six consecutive starts that he's gone at least a half-dozen innings following his seven-inning outing last Friday against Portland. It was another quality start, his sixth of the year, as he surrendered only three runs (all earned) while walking a pair and striking out eight. Euper has become a strikeout machine this season, tying for the 13th-most in the league to this point. His 3.02 ERA and 1.23 WHIP rank fifth and fourth in the WCC, respectively.
Right-hander Max Bayles will take the bump for Santa Clara. The six-foot-three San Diegan has an opponent batting average of .197, which ranks fourth on the Broncos. He paces Santa Clara with four wins, and his 2.69 ERA is third on the team and in the WCC. He's gone more than five innings only three times in his 13 starts and averages 81 pitches per outing. In his most recent start last Friday against Seattle, he went 5.0 scoreless innings while walking three, striking out six, and giving up four hits. Bayles has a near three-to-one strikeout-to-walk ratio in his career and makes opponents swing on top of the ball (53 groundouts, 41 flyouts this season).

- Run Daniel Run: Patterson leads the squad with 10 multiple-runs games (37 total runs scored)
- Since April 14 (15 games), Kai Laxa has racked up nine multi-hit games, raising his season batting average from .261 to a team-leading .315. Laxa's latest multi-hit game was on Sunday against Portland, a two-hit effort.
- Outfielder Trey Dunn leads Pepperdine with a .380 BABIP (expected batting average on any ball put in play).
