Track Adds Meet in Redlands for Men’s NCAA Hopefuls

REDLANDS, Calif. – Pepperdine track has announced that runners Elijah Gentry and Parker Buchheit will compete in the Redlands Final Qualifier, May 14. It will provide the two with another shot to improve their bid for the NCAA West Regionals.Â

Thursday will see Buchheit compete in the 800m at 5:25 p.m. and Gentry in the 3000m steeplechase at 7:05 p.m.
To automatically qualify for the NCAA Prelims, runners must be ranked in their event's top-48 in their respective region. In the west, Gentry is currently ranked 48th in the 3000m steeplechase (8:49.70) while Buchheit is 87th in the 800m (1:49.13). While not competing this weekend, Lizzy Crawford is 38th in the women's 10K (33:44.39). The field will be announced May 21, with the meet taking place in Fayetteville, Ark. May 27-30. In the program's history, Karl Winter is currently the only runner to have represented the Waves on such a stage.Â

The Pepperdine cross country/track program has a rich history dating back to the 1950s with six total individual national championships to come through the program. As one of the original three programs sponsored by then George Pepperdine College in 1937, the Waves immediately began to make a mark on the track world stage with eight total Olympians and multiple regional champions throughout the program's history.Â
