FAIRFIELD, Calif. — No. 9 Pepperdine women's golf secured the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championship Monday from Green Valley Country Club with a wire-to-wire victory across the tournament. In addition, sophomore Eunseo Choi claimed Medalist honors, winning the tournament by eight strokes on the individual leaderboard while setting a new conference record for low score at 9-under par.
The Waves were the low team of the day for the third consecutive round at even par on the way to the victory, finishing +1 for the tournament, 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Oregon State.
Eunseo Choi shot her second straight 68 (-4) today to finish -9, eight strokes ahead of second place. This marks the 21st time in program history that Pepperdine has earned Medalist honors at the WCC Championship, with Choi being the 17th individual to claim the individual title for the Waves. Choi's -9 finish marked the lowest individual score at a WCC Championship in the conference's history.
Pepperdine has secured the 22nd WCC Championship in program history, and will head to its 27th consecutive NCAA Regional under head coach Laurie Gibbs. All 22 conference titles have come since 1998, with Pepperdine now having won four of the past five WCC Championships.
"An excellent team win with everyone contributing," said Gibbs following the victory. "Eunseo played great shooting under par all three days to earn her second win of the spring. After the players finish finals this week, we will celebrate graduation for our two seniors, Jeneath & Jenny, and then on to NCAA Regionals!"
The scoring Monday was the lowest on the week, with the course average (74.90) being under 75 for the first time.
