Track Competing Across California This Week

MALIBU, Calif. –  Pepperdine track will send five runners to the Stanford Invitational Friday and Saturday. Also in the Bay Area, Gordy Nilsen will compete solo at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at San Francisco State Saturday. A collection of Wave sprinters will travel to Ventura County tomorrow for the Moorpark Invitationals.

 

Competition from Greater Palo Alto is set for 10 a.m. tomorrow and 11 a.m. Saturday. Nilsen's Saturday solo run will begin at 9:15 a.m. Moorpark's meet is scheduled for 11 a.m Friday.

 

"This is the biggest group we've ever brought to Stanford which is a big step for our program," said head coach Lauren Floris. "It's exciting for the team to have the opportunity to be racing against the best of the best, and we expect that competing at this level is going to bring their performances to the next level!"

 

From Stanford, Friday will see Brittany Rivas compete in the 400-meter hurdles, Kian Alton in the 400-meters, Elijah Gentry in the 3000-meter steeplechase, and Lizzy Crawford in the 10K. Parker Buchheit will be the lone orange and blue runner Saturday, set to compete in the 800-meters.

 

Gordy Nilsen will compete in the 10K.

 

At Moorpark College, Wave sprinters will compete in the 200-meters.

There are no Live Results available for the Moorpark Invitational.

 

Last week Pepperdine competed at the Bob Larsen/Jim Bush Invitational in Westwood. The team raced in 14 events and earned two top-ten times. 

 

Recently in Fullerton, Brittany Rivas ran 1:03.69 in the 400-meter hurdles, while Lizzy Crawford won the 5K in 16:42.02. In the men's 5K, Gordy Nilsen posted a 14:31.41.

In Santa Barbara, Kian Alton and Parker Buchheit combined for the program 4x400-meter relay record  (3:16.13). Later in Westwood, Elijah Gentry was the team's top finisher in the 1500-meters at 3:49.65.

The Waves reunite for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational April 11.

 

ABOUT PEPPERDINE CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK

The Pepperdine cross country/track program has a rich history dating back to the 1950s with six total individual national championships to come through the program. As one of the original three programs sponsored by then George Pepperdine College in 1937, the Waves immediately began to make a mark on the track world stage with eight total Olympians and multiple regional champions throughout the program's history.
