PALO ALTO, Calif. — Pepperdine beach volleyball (23-11) ends their regular season schedule in the Stanford West Coast Challenge. During their stay in the Bay they will match-up against No. 7 California (20-9), San Jose State (9-15), No. 6 Cal Poly (23-7), and versus host No. 2 Stanford (30-3).
Friday the Waves take on the Golden Bears at 11 a.m. and Spartans at 3 p.m. Their Saturday tilts are scheduled against the Mustangs at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Cardinal.Â
"We've been waiting for this opportunity," head coach Marcio Sicoli said. "We talked this week at practice about how many times this season we've been on the wrong side of a 3-2. We're ready to be winners in that scenario and there's no team I want to see conquer that hurdle more than Team 15!"
The live stat links and weekend schedule for each Pepperdine contest are below:
DUAL 1: Pepperdine vs. California | Friday, April 17 | 11 a.m.
DUAL 2: Pepperdine vs. San Jose State | Friday, April 17 | 3 p.m.
DUAL 3:Â Pepperdine vs. Cal Poly | Saturday, April 18 | 9 a.m.
DUAL 4: Pepperdine at Stanford | Saturday, April 18 | 1 p.m.
Pepperdine's final match, against the No. 2-ranked Cardinal, will be streamed on B1G+ for subscribers. COURT 1 will feature flights one and two. COURT 2 will play host to flights three and four. COURT 3 will see flight five and the exhibitional sixes play.
The Golden Bears hold a 4-1 series advantage over the Waves. Pepperdine won the initial meeting in 2019. Team 15 has already faced SJSU, who they swept in Honolulu earlier this spring. The orange and blue are 2-0 all-time against the Spartans. 2023 was the last time Pepperdine faced Cal Poly, which was a 3-2 Waves win. They boast a 9-3 lead against the Mustangs. Stanford and the Waves will break the 2-2 stalemate in their history Saturday.
The Waves Tourney was last weekend, where the orange and blue went 4-0 in their home finale. They swept a trio of opponents: Saturday against San Francisco, Vanguard, and Concordia. Pepperdine had previously defeated the Dons 4-1 on Friday.Â
Gabbie Perez and Maddy Snow lead the team in wins from the two spot. The pair have posted a record of 26-7 on the season. Emi Erickson and Ginevra Merlini moved into second on the team in wins last week. The two, coming off a West Coast Conference Pair of the Week award, are 23-11 (primarily in the fourth flight). Michaela Cyrani and Emma Eden occupy the top flight, and sit with 22 wins to ten losses. With Deanie Woodruff's return to the line-up last Saturday it will be notable to see if she reunites with Emma Bubelis on the fifth flight. Bella Avelar, who has earned a 7-1 mark, has been starting alongside Bubelis during Woodruff's absence. Â
Next weekend the Waves will make the short voyage to Santa Monica for the West Coast Conference Championships, April 23 and 24. A bracket will be announced by the conference following this weekend's contests.
