Track Gears Up for Gaucho Relays

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –  Pepperdine track opens its outdoor season on the campus of UC Santa Barbara for the Gaucho Relays, Saturday at 12:10 p.m.

"We look forward to this meet every year because it gives us the unique opportunity to focus on relays and the team effort those races require are just so fun," said head coach Lauren Floris. "I expect to see a few new records come out of this meet as well which is always fun!"

Each event will first be contested by the women's team before the men's squad then follows.

Expect to see the Waves in the 4x800, 4x100, and 4x400-meter relays.

Individual runs will include the 100 and 1000-meters. The full schedule can be found on the host's website here. A Live Stats link is forthcoming.

Last week the Waves broke a combined four records. The MPSF Indoor Championships were yet another backdrop for Ashley Eagan and Lizzy Crawford to set program bests this season. Crawford ran her 5K in 16:51.31—-good for a silver finish in the Silver State. Eagan doubled-up on the 800 meter record which she had previously held, this time clocking a 2:15.52.

Annie Trapp, Mia Skuraton, Lia Cooper, and Lexi Thomas set the 4x400 relay record at 3:55.20, which they should have an opportunity to break again this weekend.

The men's team was writing their own history at the Rossi Relays. While in Claremont, Calif. Elijah Gentry, Kian Alton, Parker Buchheit, and Gordy Nilsen blazed past the old 4K DMR record by 27 seconds (9:54.18, previously 10:21.18).

Pepperdine set three Wave-bests last year at the Gaucho Relays. Of these record makers, 13 of the 18 will be making the return trip to Pauley Track.

Fullerton, Calif. will next see the Waves for two days of action in the Ben Brown and Astro AI Invitational, March 12 and 13.
