WESTLAKE, VILLAGE, Calif. — No. 15 Pepperdine men's golf shot nine under par as a team in the second round of the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club, increasing its lead to 16 strokes while sitting at 16 under par through two rounds.
Brady Siravo and Byungho Lee each carded a 4-under 66 to lead the way, with just one golfer in the field scoring lower. Willy Walsh also shot under par for the second straight round, as the Waves account for three of the 11 under par scores through two rounds of the tournament.
Siravo had a colorful scorecard on the day, making just six pars, but pushed himself into solo second place individually with his 66. With Pepperdine beginning on the back nine, Siravo birdied four straight holes from 12-15 following a birdie-bogey start. Not making his first par until his eighth hole on the course, he carded a 3-under 33 on the back nine. Making the turn to the front which featured the four highest scoring holes on the day, Siravo managed to stay in the red with three birdies and two bogeys to post a 33, bringing his round score to 4-under.
Lee had a much different path to the same result as Siravo at 66, beginning with a bogey on 10 which would be his lone blemish on the round. Immediately responding with a birdie, he caught fire at the end of the back nine, logging three straight birdies from 15-17. On the front, Lee managed to par the first seven holes before carding a birdie on the eighth, which saw the lowest number of total birdies on the day with just seven. Lee pushed himself to third place and two strokes back of the lead for the tournament, sitting at five under par.
Walsh followed up his 69 in the first round with a 2-under 68 to maintain his place in the top-ten individually. After going birdie-bogey on 13 and 14, Walsh carded back-to-back birdies on the next two, putting him at two under par for the round. The junior went on to par his final 11 holes, bringing his total score to three under par through two rounds.
Mahanth Chirravuri contributed a 1-over 71 to round out the team scoring for the Waves. Chirravuri bogeyed a pair on 12 and 13 to begin, getting the strokes back with birdies on 15 and 18 to be even par through nine holes of play. Following a bogey on two, Cirravuri carded back-to-back threes on the par-four fifth and sixth holes, before finishing his round with back-to-back bogeys. He currently sits in a tie for 14th-place individually at one over par through two rounds.
Luke Dariotis shot a 4-over 74 to round out the Pepperdine lineup, posting a 37 on the back nine through a birdie on 12 and double bogey on 17. Dariotois began the front nine four over through three holes, rebounding with five straight pars and a birdie on nine for a 37 on the front as well. The freshman also sits in a tie for 14th at one over par for the tournament.
On the individual side, Oscar Bach led the Waves with a 3-over 73, carding five birdies on the day. Luke Bailey got in with a 5-over 75, bringing his two-round score to +7. Carson Kim posted a 6-over 76 following his even par round on Monday.
