Chirravuri, Walsh Pace No. 10 Men’s Golf at The Desimone Invitational

DALY CITY, Calif. - Mahanth Chirravuri continued a strong spring campaign on Monday as the No. 10 Pepperdine men's golf team began a two-day, three-round tournament at The Desimone Invitational, hosted by the University of California-Berkeley.

The Waves are in a tie for seventh place as a team with San Jose State, combining to stroke 13-under in the first two rounds.

After being named to the Fred Haskins Award Spring Watch List earlier this morning, the senior found himself in a five-way tie for ninth place overall following Monday's first and second rounds. He scored a six-under after stroking two-under in the opening round before improving to four-under in the second round. The sixth-ranked golfer in the country was consistent all day, recording just three bogeys while firing nine birdies, including five in round two. He capped off the afternoon by racking up birdies on holes 11, 13, and 16, solidifying his top-10 stature heading into Tuesday.

Willy Walsh finished just a stroke back of Chirravuri, tallying five strokes in the opening round before recording even in the second. Walsh started the day on fire, sinking birdies on four of the first nine before finishing round one with a birdie on 15 and 18, canceling out a bogey on 16. He had a slower start in the second round, bogeying three consecutive times but recovered to finish even on the back end, staying at five-under for the day and within the top 15 overall.

In what was an extremely competitive first two rounds, Brady Siravo finished in a nine-way tie for 19th place overall. He stroked a four-under, completing each of the opening two rounds two-under. Siravo finished round one strong with a birdie before brushing in three more on the back nine in round two.

Individually, Carson Kim recorded one-over on the opening 18 before finishing two-under in round two. He caught fire on the back nine in the second round, firing birdies on the 11th, 13, and 14ths greens.

Luke Bailey had a bumpy start by stroking five-over in round one but fired three-under in round two. He recorded a par of birdie on 16 holes in round two.

Byungho Lee also recorded five-over in the first round but recovered to shoot even in the second.
