FORT WORTH, Texas — Surging seven places in the final round, the Pepperdine men's golf team finished in fifth at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational Presented by Charles Schwab on Tuesday.
Pepperdine put together one of the best final rounds of the par-70, 7,289-yard Colonial Country Club course. The Waves finished with a 2-under 278 — the only team under par — continuing their streak of finishing strong at fall tournaments. Pepperdine finished above seven programs currenlty ranked in the top-20, including both No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Arizona State.
Individually, Willy Walsh finished in the top-10 for his second consecutive tournament, tying for second with a 1-under 209. He lost in a five-man playoff for medalist honors and was the only Wave under par. Elsewhere in the lineup, fellow seniors Mahanth Chirravuri (20th) and Brady Siravo (28th) made big moves on the final day to finish in the top-30.
North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Texas were named co-champions after all finishing with scores of 10-over 850. Albert Hansson of Georgia Tech won a five-man playoff with an eight-foot birdie putt on the first hole to earn medalist honors.
