LOS ANGELES — Highlighting the Pepperdine track team's stint at the Oxy Invite this weekend, freshman hurdler Brittany Rivas broke her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday.
Rivas' time of 1:02.07 was 21-hundredths of a second faster than her previous personal-best time from the Triton Invite earlier this season. She placed second in the event.
Later in the meet, Rivas led the Waves' 4x400-meter relay team of herself, Isabella Reyes, Jenna Parsio and Lexi Thomas to win the event with a time of 3:52.51, which was close to breaking the school record in the event. The Waves duked it out with Redlands' team throughout the race, but an iffy exchange from Redlands and a strong second half of the race helped Pepperdine win.
The Oxy Invite was also a productive meet for the men's 1,500-meter runners, as three men ran top-10 times. Freshman Elijah Gentry moved up to third on the program's top-10 leaderboard with a personal-best time of 3:52.77, while Gordy Nilsen moved up to fourth with his time of 3:53.15. Freshman Colin Knowles ran a massive PR and broke into the top-10 rankings with his time of 3:55.81, which is good for the seventh-fastest mark in program history.
