AZUSA, Calif. — Wrapping up the penultimate meet of the season, the Pepperdine track team ran eight new top-10 times at Azusa Pacific University's Franson Last Chance Meet this weekend.
Sophomore sprinter Ava Maly was responsible for two of those top-10 marks, as she ran new collegiate personal-best times in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Her time of 12.24 seconds in the 100-meter dash ranks fifth in program history, while her time of 24.91 seconds ranks fourth at Pepperdine. Both times led the team.
On Saturday evening, Pepperdine nearly had two school records go down. For the third consecutive week, Pepperdine's 4x400-meter relay team finished within one second of breaking the school record of 3:51.82, which has stood since 2017. This time, the Waves finished nine-hundredths of a second away; their time of 3:51.93 placed fourth.
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase later that night, freshman Elijah Gentry placed seventh in the fast heat by clocking a time of 9:09.58 — less than three seconds from his school record.
That evening, Colin Knowles also led the Waves by running a time of 3:54.96 in the 1,500-meter run. His time is the fifth-fastest in program history.
