CARLSBAD, Calif. – Moving up two spots after the second round, the Pepperdine men's golf team is tied for 12th after 36 holes of the NCAA Championships.
During round two, the 21st-ranked Waves posted a 6-over 294 on the par-72 7,480-yard Omni La Costa Resort & Spa North Course and hold a two-day total of 587 (293-294) (+11).
The top-15 teams will advance to a fourth round of stroke play after tomorrow's third round, and Pepperdine sits in a
tie for 12th and is just inside the cut line. Places 11-19 are separated by a total of just four strokes heading into tomorrow's crucial third round.
Additionally, the top-8 teams will qualify for match play after Monday's fourth round, and the Waves are seven strokes behind that current mark. #5 Arizona State has the two-day lead at 13-under (563).
Individually,
Willy Walsh led the charge for the Waves on day two, posting an even 72 with back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16.
Mahanth Chirravuri is leading the squad in the tournament and is
tied for 25th at even-par with a two-day total of 144 (71-73). He is one of only 31 individuals in the 151-player field to be even-par or better after two rounds. Michael La Sasso (Ole Miss) and Connor Williams (Arizona State) are tied for the individual lead at 9-under (135).
PLAYER SCORES
- Junior Mahanth Chirravuri (Chandler, Ariz.) is tied for 25th at even-par with a two-day score of 144 (71-73). On Saturday, Chirravuri came out firing and was 2-under thru 3, but made the turn at even-par. He then found himself 2-over thru 13 before playing the last five holes 1-under and tabbing a crucial birdie on the par-5 18th. He collected birdies on holes 2, 3, 14 and 18 during round two.
- Sophomore Willy Walsh (San Mateo, Calif.) notched an even 72 with two birdies during Saturday's round. Walsh was 2-over thru 14, but then recorded two-straight birdies on holes 15 and 16 to get back to even-par before making par on the last two holes. He is tied for 43rd with a two-round total of 146 (74-72) (+2).
- Junior Brady Siravo (Sacramento, Calif.) is tied for 55th after carding a 2-over 74 with a birdie on hole 10 during the second round. He is 3-over on the tournament and has a total of 147 (73-74).
- Freshman Luke Bailey (Encinitas, Calif.) finished his second round with a 4-over 76 and is tied for 95th with a two-day total of 151 (75-76) (+7). He played his front nine even-par before earning his lone birdie of the day on hole 18.
- Sophomore Kris Kuvaas (Houston, Texas) is tied for 128th after recording a 3-over 75 with birdies on holes 6, 10 and 16 during Saturday's round. Kuvaas holds a two-round score of 156 (81-75) (+12).
