MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine track freshman Brittany Rivas lowered her school record in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay team ran the second-fastest time in school history at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational over the weekend.
The Waves ran nine top-10 times over the course of the two-day meet. This is also the sixth outdoor meet where head coach Lauren Floris' squad has broken a school record.
Running in her marquee event, Rivas won her heat of the 400-meter high hurdles and placed seventh overall with her time of 1:02.28. In the same heat, Maddy Ortman went under Rivas' old school record, running the second-fastest time in program history with a time of 1:03.52. Rivas set the school record of 1:03.74 in her collegiate debut. Senior Lauren Rocco also moved up to fifth in program history with her time of 1:05.43.
Later on Saturday, the 4x400-meter team ran a season-best time of 3:53.97, which ranks second in program history. Pepperdine finished fourth in the event out of 12 teams, making it one of the best finishes the squad has had all year. They are less than three seconds off of the school record of 3:51.82, which was set in 2017.

On Friday, Ava Maly broke into the program's top-10 rankings in the 200-meter dash with her time of 25.38 seconds. She ranks fifth in the event.

In the men's 200-meter dash, Jordan McCray ran a collegiate-best time of 22.85 seconds, which ranks fourth in program history.

The Pepperdine men's track team ran three new top-10 times in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Patrick Thomas cut nearly 20 seconds off his previous personal best with a time of 9:28.63, which ranks third all-time. Gordy Nilsen (9:49.29) and Kaleb McElfish (10:02.88) also rank fifth and eighth in the event, respectively.
