Pepperdine Leads the WCC Championship After 36 Holes

FAIRFIELD, Calif. – After 36 holes of play, the Pepperdine men's golf team is comfortably in first place with a seven-stroke lead over second at the WCC Championship.

The 21st-ranked Waves are 30-under after posting a two-round total of 546 (277-269) at the Green Valley Country Club on Friday. Loyola Marymount is in second with a total of 553, while #45 Santa Clara rounds out the top-three at 554.

Mahanth Chirravuri is leading Pepperdine and is tied for 1st with a total of 133 (67-66) (-11). Along with Chirravuri, Kris Kuvaas is also in the top-10 as he's tied for 3rd with a total of 135 (70-65) (-9).

The top-four teams after tomorrow's third round of stroke play will qualify for match play on Sunday. Pepperdine is currently 19-strokes ahead of fifth place with 18 holes left of stroke play.

PLAYER SCORES
  • Junior Mahanth Chirravuri (Chandler, Ariz.) is tied for 1st at 11-under with a two-round total of 133 (67-66). Chirravuri started his day with a 5-under 67 with four birdies and an eagle before posting a 6-under 66 with seven birdies in the second round.
  • Sophomore Kris Kuvaas (Houston, Texas) tallied a total of 135 (70-65) (-9) and is tied for 3rd with one round to play. Kuvaas posted a 2-under 70 with four birdies in the first round before leading the entire field with his 7-under 65 over his last 18 holes. Kuvaas notched eight birdies in his second round for a total of 12 on the day.
  • Junior Brady Siravo (Sacramento, Calif.) is also tied for 11th with a tournament total of 139 (71-68) (-5). He collected four birdies during his 1-under 71 in the opening round. He then tabbed six birdies en route to a 4-under 68 in the second round.
  • Freshman Luke Bailey (Encinitas, Calif.) is tied for 16th with a two-round score of 140 (70-70) (-4). He posted an impressive six birdies and was 6-under at the turn in the opening round. However, he ran into trouble on the back nine to finish his opening round with a 2-under 70. In the second round, Bailey carded another 2-under 70 with three birdies and an eagle.
  • Sophomore Willy Walsh (San Mateo, Calif.) is tied for 31st at 1-over with a 36-hole score of 145 (70-75). Walsh posted five birdies and an eagle during his 2-under 70 in the first round before posting a 3-over 75 with two birdies in the second round.
