Waves Lead the Western Intercollegiate After 36 Holes

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Posting an impressive 8-under 342 on Tuesday, the Pepperdine men's golf team surged to the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the Western Intercollegiate. 

The 22nd-ranked Waves have a two-round total of 694 (352-342) (-6) in the play 6-count-5 tournament at the 6,521-yard par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Club. Pepperdine is two strokes ahead of #18 San Diego State, and three ahead of #21 Arizona. Additionally, the Waves are also in front of four other teams ranked in the top-50: #29 BYU, #34 UNLV, #36 Oregon and #42 Stanford.

Mahanth Chirravuri is leading Pepperdine and is tied for 3rd with a total of 134 (69-65) (-6).

  • Junior Mahanth Chirravuri (Chandler, Ariz.) is tied for 3rd at 6-under with a two-day total of 134 (69-65). During his second round, he carded an impressive 5-under 65, playing the back nine 3-under and collecting a total of seven birdies on Tuesday. His 5-under was tied for the second-best round in the entire field today.
  • Sophomore Willy Walsh (San Mateo, Calif.) is tied for 11th with a 36-hole score of 137 (69-68) (-3). Walsh posted five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 9th hole during his 2-under 68 on Tuesday.
  • Freshman Luke Bailey (Encinitas, Calif.) is tied for 22nd with a two-round score of 141 (71-70) (+1). Bailey tabbed an even 70 with four birdies including a stretch of three birdies during holes 13-16 today.
  • Junior Brady Siravo (Sacramento, Calif.) is also tied for 22nd with a tournament total of 141 (73-68) (+1). He collected four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 9th hole during his 2-under 68 on Tuesday.
  • Freshman Byungho Lee (Seoul, South Korea) posted a 2-over 72 today. Holing out from the fairway, Lee eagled the par-4 7th hole during his second round. He's tied for 29th with a total score of 142 (70-72) (+2).
  • Sophomore Kris Kuvaas (Houston, Texas) tallied a 1-over 71 with two birdies in the second round. Kuvaas is tied for 43rd at 4-over with a two-day score of 144 (73-71).
