During the first set, CSUN and Pepperdine shared a tie 11 times, with five lead changes. Although the Waves were able to secure four more kills than the Matadors, CSUN's eight blocks and four service aces denied any effort for Pepperdine to take the first set. Ryan Barnett had five kills on eight attempts, while Ethan Watson and Cole Hartke trailed behind with three apiece. The opposition's dominant blocking and efforts from the service line would ultimately allow CSUN to take set one, 25-22.
In set two, the Matadors got off to an early lead, only allowing Pepperdine to take the advantage once early in the set. CSUN posted 14 kills as a team, hitting on a .440 success rate, while Pepperdine posted 11 kills on a .292 clip. Although the Waves were able to post four blocks throughout set two, the Matador's dominant hitting propelled them further. Barnett had another four kills on nine swings, while Hartke also went a perfect three-for-three kills adding two digs and a block. An early lead for CSUN allowed them to take set two, 25-20.
Set three would be dominated by the Waves, posting 13 kills and five blocks as a team, keeping CSUN to just a .088 hitting percentage. The attacking effort was led by Hartke, who had five kills on a .500 clip and two blocks, while Barnett had four kills and a solo denial at the net. James Eadie assisted on four of the five blocks in the third set, also adding three kills on as many attempts. The Matadors were unable to catch up to the Waves, with Pepperdine taking set three, 25-20.
The Waves and Matadors were evenly matched during set four, with Pepperdine posting 14 kills with a .242 success rate, and CSUN adding 14 kills with a .276 hitting percentage. Both squads were tied five times throughout set three, but the opposition's denials from the net would halt any attempt at a five-set match. Hartke and Barnett each added five kills, as well as combining for three blocks. Eadie posted three kills on five attempts, but ultimately Pepperdine would come up short, falling in set four, 23-25.
