SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Pepperdine women's soccer (11-6-2, 8-2-1 WCC) saw eight Waves appear in the postseason honors for the West Coast Conference, taking home nine awards, the conference announced Wednesday morning.
Highlighting the awards is
Tabitha LaParl, who took home Midfielder of the Year as well as a mention on the All-WCC first team. As just the second year the conference has been giving out a midfielder of the year award, Pepperdine has been honored in both years. Last year,
Karina Gonzalez shared the honor with two other midfielders in the conference, while LaParl is the sole honoree this season.
Joining LaParl on All-WCC first team is
Tatum Wynalda, Peyton Leonard, and Julia Quinonez. For all four Waves, the All-WCC first team selection is a first. Two seasons ago, Quinonez was tabbed WCC Freshman of the Year, earning an all-freshman team selection. Wynalda earned a second-team nod the past three seasons, including an all-freshman team mention in 2022. LaParl earned an honorable mention last season as well.
This is the first time in history the Waves have had four honored on the first team, and the first time since 2014 eight players in total have been selected across all four teams. Pepperdine is the most widely represented across all four teams, with Seattle University and Saint Mary's coming in second with seven selections.
Kyra Murphy is the Waves sole representation on the All-WCC second team. Last season, Murphy earned an honorable mention selection. This season, Murphy cemented her name in the record books with five straight matches with either a goal or assist, tying for third in program history. Gonzalez represents Pepperdine on the honorable mention list, earning co-midfielder of the year last year as well as an All-WCC second selection.
Earning their first conference awards on the WCC All-Freshman Team are
Ariana Markey and
Layla Simon. Markey has one goal and three assists on the season while conversely, Simon has three goals and one assist. Pepperdine ties San Francisco with the most freshmen selections on the squad.
