Women's Soccer Hosts Pacific for Alumni Day in Malibu

MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine women's soccer (5-4-1, 2-0 WCC) welcomes the Pacific Tigers (3-4-3, 0-1-1 WCC) to Tari Frahm where they will host alumni day to welcome back all who have been a part of the program, including Lynn Biyendolo, who will be inducted into the Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame later that evening.
 
"Everybody in the WCC can beat everybody," Head Coach Tim Ward said. "They're a tough unit to crack. We're going to try our best and try to put out the best performance we can."
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Waves played at Championship Field in Seattle, Wash. for the first time ever, coming home with a 3-2 victory last Saturday. 
  • Julia Quinonez secured a brace for her fifth and sixth goals of the year.
  • Tatum Wynalda scored the game winner on a free kick in the 74th minute.
 
GAME NOTES
 
  • Through 10 matches, Julia Quinonez leads the team in points with 15, scoring six goals and notching three assists.
  • Matching her stats from two seasons ago where she was the WCC Freshman of the Year, Julia Quinonez has cemented her space as an offensive threat.
  • As one of the captains leading the team through 10 matches, Kyra Murphy has gone four consecutive matches with either a goal or assist, having a part in the Waves' opening goal against Seattle.
  • Having 19 starts and six goals throughout her collegiate career entering this season, Murphy is on pace to double her offensive output.
  • With the most minutes played outside of the goal, Peyton Leonard has played nearly every minute this season, averaging more than 87 minutes per match.
  • Scoring three goals with four on-goal attempts, Leonard is an offensive threat inside the box.
  • Garnering national awards, Leonard earned a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week earlier this season after a goal on a set piece against Columbia.
  • Goalkeeper Jillian Medvecky has collected 42 saves this season, averaging just over four a match.
  • Last season, Medvecky secured four shutouts with a goals against average of 1.10 per match.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • In 16 matches with the Tigers, the Waves are a perfect 16-0, including 9-0 in Malibu.
  • Last season in Stockton, Pepperdine shutout Pacific 5-0.
  • Pacific last scored on Pepperdine in 2023 at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in a 2-1 victory for the Waves.
  • Tabitha LaParl secured a brace last time out against the Tigers, with Kyra Murphy and Ariana Salvador seeing a goal each themselves.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
  • Through 10 matches, Pacific is 3-4-3, inlcuding 0-1-1 in conference play.
  • Last time out, the Tigers lost to Portland 0-1 at home.
  • Notable results for the squad include a 1-0 victory against Utah State followed directly by a 2-2 tie against Cal Poly.
  • With nine goals on the year, Sierah McCallum is the only tiger to notch multiple with two, while most goals have come unassisted with a total of three on the season.
 
Saturday afternoon's match is slated for a 12 p.m. kickoff. As the alumni match, Lynn Biyendolo shirts will be given to the first 100 fans with the Olympian in attendance. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) and live stats will be available at www.pepperdinewaves.com

Pepperdine women's soccer has been competitive since season one in 1993. As just the third head coach in the program's history, Tim Ward has led the Waves to 14 NCAA tournament appearances, winning the West Coast Conference five separate times and taking his squad to the round of 16 four times, most recently in 2021. With 23 winning seasons, Ward has proven he can lead consistently with excellence, garnering an overall record of 314-155-77.
