MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine women's soccer (4-4-1, 1-0) shutout Oregon State (1-4-4, 0-1) in a 6-0 win at Tari Frahm Rokus Field Wednesday afternoon.
"Really proud of the girls and regardless of [Oregon State's] record, I want to give them a lot of credit. They're a tough team to break down," Head coach
Tim Ward said. "The girls shared the ball and they worked hard for one another. Really, really solid performance from us."
Six goals is the most Pepperdine has scored since Oct. 23, 2023 in a 7-0 win over San Diego. With 32 shots throughout the match, it comes just two shy of the third-most shots ever in a Pepperdine soccer match.
From the jump, the Waves were holding possession and testing the opposition's defense. Breaking through with the 15th shot of the first half for Pepperdine,
Peyton Leonard knocked one into the net off the crossbar from a missed shot. Leonard's goal is the first to not come from a header and her third of the year.
Keeping the foot on the gas, Pepperdine was not satisfied with the 1-0 lead at the break. Less than two minutes after play had resumed,
Kyra Murphy notched her fourth of the year thanks to a through ball from
Kendall Campbell in the 47th minute.
At 2-0, the next two goals came courtesy of penalty kicks, one by
Elle Quinn and the other by
Megan Edelman. With just under 30 minutes left to play, the Waves led 4-0.
Making it three straight matches with a goal,
Julia Quinonez was the next Wave to score in the 82nd minute off a corner from
Ariana Markey. Quinonez and Murphy have each netted a goal in the past three matches, leading the squad with four apiece.
Not even two minutes later,
Tatum Wynalda put an exclamation point on the statement victory as she scored her second of the season thanks to a ball from
Chloe Brown as she secured the first assist of her collegiate career in the opening match of West Coast Conference play.
Goalkeeper
Kaia Tom made her collegiate debut this afternoon, subbing in for
Jillian Medvecky in the 72nd minute.
Up next, the Waves head north to the state of Washington, taking on new-WCC member Seattle Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. as Pepperdine looks for the first victory under the lights this season. The live stream will be on ESPN+ (subscription required) and live stats will be available on
