BREMERTON, Wash. – The Pepperdine men's golf team got off to a good start after a pair of rounds on Friday at the West Coast Conference Championships, held at the par-72, 7,095-yard Gold Mountain Golf Club.
The Waves shot a 560 (286-274) on the tournament's opening day and finished after 36-holes with three players in the top-10. Pepperdine was in fifth after the first round, but shot an impressive 14-under in the second to move up three spots. San Diego leads the team scoring with a 26-under 550, while PCH Cup rival LMU and Saint Mary's are tied for third after finishing one-stroke behind Pepperdine.
Several Waves had strong days, led by sophomore
Brady Siravo who shot 7-under to tie for fourth-place. He and freshman
William Walsh are second in the field with 11 birdies in the tournament so far. Walsh and sophomore
Joshua Koo are tied for seventh-place, having finished 5-under after two rounds. Siravo is one shot behind the players in second and three shots behind Carson Enright of San Diego who holds the lead currently.
The top four teams after tomorrow's final round of stroke play will compete head-to-head in match play on Sunday. An individual champion will still be named after 54-holes of stroke play are completed on Saturday.
PLAYER SCORES
- Sophomore Brady Siravo (Sacramento, Calif.) is tied for fourth with a two-round score of 137 (71-66). He started the day with four birdies in the first round to finish 1-under and tied for 14th. After a bogey on hole two had him even to open the second, he dialed in for the remainder, posting a pair of birdies before the turn to go back under. He then finished the day with five more birdies on the back nine to move up 10 spots. In his final 16 holes of the day, he shot 7-under without a single bogey. He posted 11 birdies overall so far, which is second in the tournament.
- Freshman William Walsh (San Mateo, Calif.) is tied for seventh with a score of 139 (68-71). He had a solid first round, starting the day going 4-under through his first 12 bogeyless holes. Though he erred a few times on the back nine, he finished with six birdies and 4-under after 18 holes. He continued in the second round with five more birdies, four of which came in the back.
- Sophomore Joshua Koo (Cerritos, Calif.) shot a 139 (73-66) to tie for seventh after the first day. He had a pair of birdies in the first round, but really kicked it into gear in the second, starting the round off with six birdies through 16 errorless holes. He split the 17th and 18th to end 6-under in the round.
- Sophomore Mahanth Chirravuri (Chandler, Ariz.) is tied for 22nd with a score of 145 (74-71). He amassed eight birdies overall, including five in the second round.
- Freshman Kristoffer Kuvaas (Houston, Texas) is in 38th with a score of 151 (78-73). He had a stretch of three-consecutive birdies in the first round, though was plagued by bogeys to have some work to do in the second. After a slow start, he finished strong, posting a pair of birdies to start the back nine of the second round. He had one more bogey on the 12th, before finishing off with an eagle and birdie on 14 and 15 to finish 3-under through his final six holes.
