Men's Golf Opens Up Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's golf team got started at the 77th annual Western Intercollegiate, finishing the first round in 11th-place at the par-70, 6,486-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club.

Mahanth Chirravuri highlighted the round in a few different ways, knocking in a hole in one on nine – a par three.  The eagle before the turn, as well as four birdies throughout the day, helped him to a 2-under 68 to sit tied for fifth-place to lead the Waves.  He is only two shots behind Taehoon Song of Washington, who is currently in the lead, and one shot back from a trio of competitors tied for second.

Arizona has a six-shot lead for first-place, having shot a 348, and was the only team under par today.

Tomorrow, the Waves will be paired with Chattanooga for the second-consecutive round beginning at 10:40 a.m. PT.  Live coverage on GOLF Channel will be from 4-7 p.m.  The tournament is formatted to play-six, count-five.
