Waves Shoot 14-Under to Open Amer Ari Intercollegiate

KOHALA COAST, Hawai'i – The Pepperdine men's golf team got off to a good start at the 33rd annual Amer Ari Intercollegiate at Mauna Lani North Course on Thursday, finishing the first round in seventh-place after a solid 14-under 274. 

Two Waves are in the top-25, led by freshman Kristoffer Kuvaas who shot a career-best 5-under 67 in the round to tie for 12th.  He marked seven birdies through his first 12 holes without a single bogey.  Sophomore Brady Siravo stayed bogeyless throughout the entire round, finishing with four birdies to sit tied for 22nd

Seventeen of the 20 teams competing in the tournament finished under par today, led by North Carolina with a 26-under 262 to snag the lead.  The Waves are four-strokes away from a top-four position, as well as ahead of the competitors tied for 10th.   

PLAYER SCORES
  • Freshman Kristoffer Kuvaas (Houston, Texas) had his best round of the year with a 5-under 67 to finish tied for 12th today.  He tied for third among all competitors for most birdies of the day.
  • Sophomore Brady Siravo (Sacramento, Calif.) is tied for 22nd with a 4-under 68 in the first round.  He had four birdies without a single bogey on his scorecard, posting a pair on each the front and back nine.
  • Sophomore Mahanth Chirravuri (Chandler, Ariz.) is tied for 37th with a 3-under 69.  He had four birdies overall, marking two in his first three holes on the eighth and 10th.  Though he bogeyed once on the 14th, he rallied with another pair of birdies on the 15th and second holes to finish strong.
  • Sophomore Joshua Koo (Cerritos, Calif.) is tied for 49th with a 2-under 70.  He had five birdies on the back nine, including three-consecutive on holes 14, 15 and 16.  He picked up another pair of consecutive birdies on the 18th and first holes as well. 
  • Freshman William Walsh (San Mateo, Calif.) finished with a 1-under 71 to tie for 65th in the round.  He put up five birdies, including three in his final five holes to finish strong.
 
UP NEXT:
Tomorrow, the Waves will tee off holes 13 through 15 beginning at 9:30 a.m. PT.  Pepperdine will be paired with Texas, UCLA and Texas Tech for the second round.
