Waves Head South for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic

MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine indoor track team's season continues this week as the Waves head to Albuquerque, N.M. for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic from Feb. 2-3. Â
On Friday, the first event for the Waves in the unseeded 200-meter dash at 1:40 p.m. PT. Saturday's action begins with the unseeded 60-meter dash at 9:45 a.m. The meet will be live streamed, albeit behind a paywall, via FloTrack; live stream and live result links can be found on the women's track team's schedule page on pepperdinewaves.com.
Two weeks ago, the Waves began their season at the Lauren McCluskey Invitational, where Hannah Miller's school record in the 1,000-meter dash was the highlight performance. In the 600 meters, Avery Smith and Kayla Renner had top-3 finishes, while Ashley Egan ran a 2:26.42 in the 800 meters — less than two seconds off of her collegiate outdoor personal best. For the sprinters, school record holder Kaley Peterson ran Pepperdine's fastest times in the 60- and 200-meter dashes.

Peterson will lead a group of six Waves in the 60-meter dash on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. She has Pepperdine's fastest time in the distance with her time of 7.95 seconds from two weeks ago.

Alexa Ortega and Lexie Dellevigne are scheduled to double in the 60 meters and the 200 meters. Dellevigne, a transfer from Santa Barbara City College, is making her Pepperdine debut this week.

The women's mile is the event of choice for the distance squad, as six Waves compete in that event. Senior Elle Shrader and junior Megan LaCamera are making their season debuts, joining Brooke Bakken, Lacey Reedy, Renee Skiera and Eden Mittelsdorf.

Ashley Eagan leads a group of four mid-distance runners in the 800 meters. She has the Waves' fastest time of the season so far with the 2:26.42 she ran two weeks ago.Â

Maddy Ortman is Pepperdine's lone runner in the 60-meter hurdles, while Avery Smith will make her collegiate debut in the 400-meter dash on Friday.
UP NEXT: From here, part of Pepperdine's team will begin outdoor season next Saturday, Feb. 10 at Westmont's Sunshine Open, while indoor season ends at the MPSF Indoor Track & Field Championships from Feb. 25-26.
