ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Facing a tough test at altitude against a strong field of competitors, the Pepperdine indoor track team wrapped up its penultimate meet of the indoor season at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic from Feb. 2-3.Â
Several top-10 showings in the distance events highlighted Saturday's action. In the distance races, senior Elle Shrader led the Waves in her indoor mile debut with a post-altitude converted time of 5:13.05 — good for a 10th-place finish and less than three seconds off Olivia Miller's school record. Megan LaCamera ran a 5:22.96 to place 13th in the same event.
Elsewhere in the 800 meters, Caroline Graham won her heat with a post-altitude converted time of 2:22.14, beating out teammate Ashley Egan, who crossed the line with a time of 2:25.12. Kayla Renner (2:29.65) and Caroline Fleenor (2:30.33) rounded out the top-10 finishes in the 800 meters by placing seventh and eighth, respectively.
For the sprinters, Kaley Peterson had the Waves' fastest 60-meter dash time for the second-consecutive meet, crossing the line in a time of 7.84 seconds after altitude and track conversions. Her time was the 24th fastest out of 59 runners in the open 60-meter dash. Earlier on Friday, Isabella Reyes clocked Pepperdine's fastest time in the 200-meter dash with a post-converted time of 26.32 seconds — the team's fastest time in the event this year.
UP NEXT: The indoor track team will wrap up its season at the MPSF Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at The Podium in Spokane, Wash., from Feb. 25-26.
