SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Pepperdine women's volleyball players Chloe Pravednikov and Trinity Stanger earned West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Pravednikov was named the WCC Freshman of the Week after setting her career-high with 19 kills against Pacific, while Stanger was the WCC's Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Waves in digs last week. This is the second WCC weekly award for Stanger this season and the first-ever award for Pravednikov. So far, five different Waves have accounted for nine weekly WCC awards this season (Grace Chillingworth, Birdie Hendrickson and Ella Piskorz are the others).
Pravednikov had a productive showing in the Bay Area last week by tallying 27 kills and averaging 3.86 kills per set to help the Waves keep pace in the conference title race. After posting eight kills in last Thursday's three-set sweep at Saint Mary's, Pravednikov led all players at Pacific with a career-high 19 kills — the second-most kills in a match by any WCC freshman this season.
Last Saturday at Pacific, Pravednikov quickly went into double-figures with a seven-kill second set. Her tenth kill of the afternoon helped put the Waves up 23-18 in the second set, then the freshman from Long Beach, Calif. tallied her 11th of the afternoon on set point to help the Waves go up 2-0 on the Tigers. Pravednikov recorded five more kills in the fourth set — including two in Pepperdine's decisive 8-2 run to end the match — to put the finishing touches on the best match of her collegiate career. All told, Pravednikov tallied 19 kills while hitting .341, one block and one dig against the Tigers.
Bolstering the Pepperdine back line last week, Stanger led the team with 37 digs, averaging 5.29 digs per set across both matches. The senior from Los Angeles tied the match-high with 15 digs against Saint Mary's last Thursday, plus the senior chipped in six assists and a pair of timely service aces to help the Waves sweep the Gaels. Two days later at Pacific, Stanger tied teammate Birdie Hendrickson for the match-high with 22 digs while adding an assist and a service ace in Pepperdine's four-set win. Stanger also posted a perfect 1.000 reception percentage against the Tigers on 29 receptions.
The Waves' final home matches are this week against San Diego and Oregon State, starting with a matinee match against the Toreros on Wednesday at noon. Tickets can be purchased for all remaining matches
