11/19/2024 2:13:00 PM | Men's Basketball
MALIBU – The Pepperdine men's basketball team is set to embark on its furthest road trip of the season this week, playing at UNLV Wednesday and at Northwestern on Friday.
GAME #4: Pepperdine (1-2) at UNLV (2-1) | Wednesday, Nov. 20 | Las Vegas, Nev. | 7 p.m. | Mountain West Network
GAME #5: Pepperdine at Northwestern (3-1) | Friday, Nov. 22 | Evanston, Ill. | 5 p.m. PT | B1G+
COVERAGE: Listen live on the audio-only WaveCast as Pepperdine Hall of Famer Al Epstein continues his streak of 1,196 & 1,197-straight men's basketball broadcasts in his 40th season on the call. Fans can also stream both games, as the contest at UNLV will be streamed on the Mountain West Network and the Northwestern game will be streamed on B1G+.
SCHILLING & COMPANY: Beginning his first campaign as the Waves' head coach, Ed Schilling has gathered a cabinet of assistant coaches with several decades of coaching experience at all levels of the sport, ranging from Power 5 schools to success at the NAIA, junior college and high school levels.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK: The 2024-25 roster features 12 new faces and just two returners in Boubacar Coulibaly and David Mager. Seven of the 12 transferred in to Pepperdine while four are true freshmen. The roster is also significantly older than in years past, seeing three graduate students and five upperclassmen.
LAST TIME OUT: Despite a first-half lead, the Pepperdine men's basketball team fell to a tough UC Irvine squad 80-62 in the Bren Events Center last Saturday night. The Waves were led yet again by Stefan Todorovic but couldn't overcome second half defensive lapses and the Anteaters' bench depth.
IN THE NAME: Through the first three games of the season, Stefan Todorovic has led Pepperdine in scoring while averaging 25 going into this week. Todorovic dropped a career-high 33 points at UCSD earlier in November. Against UC Irvine, the senior had 15 first-half points and drew five fouls– two of which came from mid-range and-one opportunities– which was a huge reason the Waves led at halftime. Currently, Todorovic is ninth in the country for points per game and leads the WCC in the same category.
SHARING THE WEALTH: Averaging almost eight assists per game, junior Moe Odum could pass his way into the Pepperdine top 10 for cumulative assists in a season if he continues on the same pace. Last season, Odum finished third in the WCC for assists per game (4.6) while playing for Pacific. Currently, he stands tied for ninth in the country for assists per game.
PRO WAVES: Maxwell Lewis was the 40th pick in the 2023 Draft and earned big minutes in the NBA Summer League. Kessler Edwards began his professional career with the Brooklyn Nets who drafted him at 44th in 2021 but has since been traded to the Sacramento Kings and now resides on the Dallas Mavericks roster. Pepperdine's record-holder for scoring and assists Colbey Ross currently plays for Pallacanestro Trieste– one of the top teams in Italy.
