Pepperdine Falls in Season Opener

MALIBU, Calif. – Despite solid showings in the relays as well as the sprint races, the Pepperdine swimming and diving program fell to San Diego State 95-52 in a sprint meet at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on Thursday morning.
 
SWIM RECAP
 
In the first event of the year, the 200 medley relay team of Kiana Fan (Irvine, Calif.), Chloe Inouye (Kaua'i, Hawai'i), Lexie Deitmeyer (Golden, Colo.) and Alexandra Browne (Arlington, Va.) finished in second with a time of 1:48.31. In the other relay today, the 200 freestyle squad of Browne, Layla Busquets (Diablo, Calif.), Eleanor Mashkovich (Calabasas, Calif.) and Anna Ryan (Alamo, Calif.) also earned a second-place finish as they swam the event in 1:38.47.
 
On the individual side of swimming, the Waves were highlighted by AJ Adams (Castle Rock, Colo.), Inouye and Browne who all took second in their respective races.
 
In the 50 backstroke, Adams clocked a time of 27.99 while Lindsay Hemming (Orinda, Calif.) finished right behind her with a third-place finish as she swam the event in 28.42.
 
In her collegiate debut, not only did Inouye help the 200 medley relay team take second, but she also finished second in the 50 breaststroke as she completed the event with a time of 31.16. Ryan finished directly behind her with a time of 31.58 in the event. 
 
After setting a school record in the 50 free last season, Browne earned a time of 24.06 in the event today, which was good for second place. Earning another third-place finish, Ryan finished the event 24.92.
 
DIVING RECAP
 
Amanda Wong (Santa Ana, Calif.) took second in the1-meter dive event with a final score of 230.25. Delainey Pisaruk (Phoenix, Ariz.) posted a score of 214.35, Vivian Vallely (Newport Beach, Calif.) tallied a score of 211.65 and Lexie Martin (Keller Texas) notched a score of 199.20.
 
NEXT UP
 
Pepperdine will host the fourth annual Rodionoff Invite on Friday Oct. 4 and Saturday Oct. 5 at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. Diving starts at 10 a.m. and swimming will follow the conclusion of dive on both days. Along with all Pepperdine home swim meets, admission to the Rodionoff Invite is free to all fans.
