Swim & Dive Complete Multi-Day Events Before Midseason

BOISE, Idaho – The Pepperdine swimming team wrapped up the Northwest Collegiate Swimming Invitational yesterday after three days of competition in Boise, Idaho. The Waves placed second as a team.

The festivities started strong for the Waves. In the first event, the 200 free relay team took gold and set the meet record with a time of 1:33.16. Maile Sullivan led the group off, followed by Layla Busquets and Kylie Taylor, with Anna Ryan as the anchor.

Another relay team also set a meet record, this time good enough for the program's top spot too. Layla Busquets, Charli Sunahara, Aliyah Fan, and Maile Sullivan swam to victory as well as history in the 400 medley relay (3:45.38).

The third relay team to earn a first-place finish and set a meet record was in the 200 medley relay. Kylie Taylor, Charli Sunahara, Aliyah Fan, and Anna Ryan combined for a 1:42.77 effort.

The second record that the swim team broke this weekend was in the 100 back. Kylie Taylor raced to a finish of 55.20 in the prelims. It was another Wave that took the top spot in the finals, however, as Layla Busquets earned the gold with a time of 56.03.

Pepperdine took the top two spots in the 50 free A cut. Kylie Taylor added another victory (23.45) with Anna Ryan taking silver (23.48).

The Waves had four of the top eight in the A cut of the 100 breast. First was Ava Taylor (1:03.47), followed by Anna Ryan in third (1:04.53), Kiana Fan in fourth (1:04.58), and Charli Sunahara in sixth (1:04.71).

Of 33 swimmers, Anna Ryan emerged to take second in the 100 breast (1:03.88).

Sophia Blietz added a third-place finish in the 200 back to her freshman campaign (2:01.87).

In the top 100 fly bracket, Layla Busquets earned bronze (55.65). Aliyah Fan was right behind her to take fourth at 55.67.

The relay teams concluded their day with a second-place finish in the 400 free. Maile Sullivan again led off with Anna Ryan anchoring, but Elliot Easton and Aliyah Fan went second and third, respectively. They finished at 3:27.57.
