Swim’s Sophia Blietz Earns MPSF Athlete of the Week Award

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Pepperdine swimming & diving freshman Sophia Blietz has been named the MPSF Female Athlete of the Week for her performance last week against UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego, as announced today.

On Nov. 15, in the pouring rain, Blietz set a school record in the 200 back with her time of 2:00.37. This speed is also the fastest in the conference so far this season. At the tri-meet, she also led off the 400 medley relay with a time of 56.85.

Blietz has come out of the gates swinging in her freshman season. She had already recorded the fifth-best (2:02.17) and tenth-best (2:04.65) times before claiming the top spot in the program's history over the weekend.

This is the Santa Clarita, Calif. native's first weekly award of her career.

Blietz and the rest of the swim team return to the pool this Friday for the Northwest Collegiate Swimming Invitational in Boise, Idaho. Competition will span Nov. 21 to the 23rd.
