MOSCOW, Idaho — Wrapping up the Pepperdine track team's indoor season debut, freshman Hannah Miller's school-record-setting run in the 1,000-meter dash highlighted the final day of the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open, held at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho on Saturday.
Miller's 1,000-meter dash time of 3:19.17 was the 12th fastest of the day and the seventh fastest in her heat. No Wave had competed in the 1,000 meter run prior to Saturday in Moscow.
Elsewhere in the middle distances, freshmen Avery Smith and Kayla Renner had top-3 finished in the 600-meter dash; they ran times of 1:41.84 and 1:45.26, respectively. Making her return after missing most of cross country season with injuries, Ashley Eagan ran a 2:26.42 in the 800 meters, which was less than two seconds off of her collegiate outdoor personal best of 2:24.82. She placed third in her heat.
On Friday, school-record holder Kaley Peterson ran Pepperdine's fastest 200-meter time of 26.35, which was 22nd overall out of 42 runners. Peterson also ran the fastest 60-meter dash time for the Waves on Saturday, clocking a 7.95 that narrowly missed making the finals.
For the distance runners, Brooke Bakken led the way for Pepperdine on Friday in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:23.36 — good for third in her heat.
Pepperdine competed against several Division I teams — including Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana, Washington State and UC Riverside — in the season-opener. The meet did not have a team score.
