MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team is back home for a three-game West Coast Conference series hosting Santa Clara. The Waves did not have a midweek contest.

SERIES VS. SANTA CLARA: Pepperdine holds the overall series 111-67-2 against Santa Clara. Last season, the Broncos took the series 2-1 on their home turf. Prior to last season, the Waves had won seven out of the nine meetings since 2018.
LAST GAMES: Last weekend, Pepperdine fell 2-1 to Pacific in the WCC three-game series at Klein Family Field in Stockton, Calif. In game one, the Waves dropped 8-2 to the Tigers. The Waves had a 1-0 lead over the Tigers in the top of the second, but Pacific then answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half to take the lead. The Tigers went on to add another five runs through the next two innings and the Waves were not able to tack a rally together for a comeback.
John Peck was 2-for-4 and scored one run.
Jack Basseer was 1-for-3 and had a RBI.
Connor Bradshaw had one hit and one RBI.
Josiah Castillo tied his career-high in strikeouts, sitting down two Tigers.
The Waves bounced back in game two as the bats came alive defeating Pacific 16-7. Pepperdine had a season-high 16 runs and tied their season-high runs batted in with 15. The Waves fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first to the Tigers, but
Connor Bradshaw hit his first career grand slam to tie the game 4-all in the top of the second inning to answer back. Pepperdine tacked on two more runs in the top of the second and kept the momentum as the Waves scored in four out of the seven innings played after that, including a four-run top of the fourth inning.
Lincoln Orellana went 3-for-5 including a double and a career-high four RBI. Orellana's three hits tied his career-high.
Charles Masino was 3-for-6 including one RBI and scored one run. Bradshaw was 2-for-4 including his first career grand slam, which was his fourth homer of the season. Bradshaw brought in a career-high five RBI.
Luke Pemberton was also 2-for-4 and crossed the plate twice. Pemberton's two hits is a new career-high and his two runs scored, ties his career-high.
Jack Basseer had two hits including a double, had one RBI and touched home plate once.
Quintt Landis one hit, drew two walks and crossed the plate three times, which ties his career-high.
Ryan Johnson hit a two-run home run and touched the plate twice.
Brandon Llewellyn threw a season-high 7.0 innings and struck out six Tigers and collected his second win of the season.
Four different Waves went yard in the series finale, but Pepperdine ultimately fell 14-11 to Pacific. The Waves had a 9-5 lead over the Tigers after the fourth inning, but the Tigers scored six unanswered runs to take the lead for the first time in the bottom of the sixth 11-9. Pepperdine tied the game 11-all on a two-run homer by
Lincoln Orellana in the top of the eighth inning, but Pacific took the lead back 14-11 in the bottom half of the eighth and held on for the win. Orellana was 2-for-3 on the day including his fourth homer of the season, which was a two-run shot, and drew two walks. Orellana crossed home plate three times, which ties his career high.
Quintt Landis tied his career-high in hits going 3-for-4 on the day including his first homer of the season. Landis had two RBI and a stolen base.
Charles Masino was 3-for-5 including a solo blast and three RBI.
Ryan Johnson hit his 14th home run of the season.
Bobby Christy tied his career-high in strikeouts, sitting down three Tigers.
RECORD WATCHIN': Ryan Johnson currently has 33 career home runs and is in sole possession of fourth on the Pepperdine career all-time. The current school record in career home runs is 45 and held by Dane Sardinha (1998-00). On the season, Johnson has hit 14 home runs and is now tied for 10th on the single-season list. He is tied with Chris Martin (1990), Jared Pitney (2001), Hutton Moyer (2015) and former teammate Justin Lutes (2021).
HONORS: Ryan Johnson notched the season's first West Coast Conference weekly honors for the Pepperdine baseball team when he was named Player of the Week on March 6. He batted a .571 and had an 11 RBI week, while posting back-to-back games with two home runs and five RBI to tie a career-high in RBI. In four appearances last week, Johnson only had two strikeouts and scored seven runs. He ended the week with five homers and a double.
Shane Telfer earned the second West Coast Conference weekly honors for Pepperdine as he was named the Pitcher of the Week on March 27. He threw 6.0 scoreless innings against Gonzaga in the series-opening 15-0 victor en route to his third win of the season. Telfer held the Bulldogs to only two hits and five walks, while earning eight strikeouts, two shy from his career-high.
John Peck collected the third West Coast Conference weekly honors for the Waves being named Player of the Week on April 10. In four games, Peck batted a .550, had a slugging percentage of .850 and helped Pepperdine go 3-1 last week. On April 4 against Cal Poly, Peck was 3-for-5 including a double and two triples. His two triples against the Mustangs was the first time this season he hit two in one game and the second time in his career. In game one of the WCC series against Saint Mary's, Peck was 4-for-5 and scored three runs for the Waves. He also had two hits in game two, brought in two runs and stole a base against the Gaels. On Sunday, in the rubber match, Peck again had two hits versus Saint Mary's including a double.
WCC LEADERS: The Waves rank top-five in multiple categories on the WCC leaderboards. Pepperdine is third in runs scored (249), third in RBI (231), fifth in hits (339) and fifth in home runs (41).
Pepperdine also has multiple Waves in the top-20 in WCC stats.
Ryan Johnson leads the conference in home runs (14), ranks fifth in slugging percentage (.691), tied for fifth in RBI (33) and ninth in on-base percentage (.446).
Jack Basseer is 11th in the WCC in batting average (.333).
Lincoln Orellana is seventh in the conference in on-base percentage (.460), 18th in batting average (.323) and 20th in slugging percentage (.525).
Quintt Landis is 14th in on-base percentage (.424). On the pitching side,
Shane Telfer is fifth in the WCC in ERA (3.90), tied for fourth in wins (four) and sixth in strikeouts (51).
Jack Baird is third on the leaderboard in saves (five).
OFFENSIVE STREAKS: John Peck leads the Waves in a reached base streak with 21 straight games.
Lincoln Orellana has the second longest reached base streak with 18 games.
Jack Basseer has reached base in 17 straight games.
Quintt Landis is on an 11-game reached base streak.
