Four Waves Earn WCC Baseball All-Academic Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - After its most successful regular season in eight years, Pepperdine baseball had four student-athletes among the All-Academic list as announced this afternoon by the West Coast Conference.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the West Coast Conference selects an all-academic squad for each West Coast Conference-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team and in at least their second year at their school.
Lucien Wechsberg and Tommy Scavone made the All-Academic squad, while Julian Nunez and Collin Valentine were Honorable Mention.
Wechsberg, who was a Dean's List honoree while playing at Westmont College, makes the WCC All-Academic team for the first time. He's been a force out of the bullpen for the Waves, posting a career-high 10 saves in the regular season while assisting Pepperdine in 14 of its 21 victories.
Scavone, Pepperdine's typical Saturday starter, won two WCC Pitcher of the Week awards in the regular season. Despite leaving his start early on May 9 and not appearing in the Santa Clara series last weekend, he still ranks 11th in strikeouts in the league. Prior to his exit on May 9, he had gone at least 5.1 innings in eight consecutive starts while Pepperdine won his previous four starts.
Nunez has been an all-around player for Pepperdine at shortstop, appearing in all but one game in the regular season. He holds career-highs in hits (53), doubles (15), runs (31), and batting average (.272) this season.
Pepperdine is set to play Saint Mary's in the opening round of the WCC Tournament on Wednesday at 7:00 pm PT.
