Pepperdine to Compete at Chevron Silverado Showdown

MALIBU, Calif. — Fresh off a win at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic, the Pepperdine women's golf team will be back in action this week, making the trip up North for the Chevron Silverado Showdown.
EVENT INFO — The tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,146-yard Silverado Resort North Course in Napa, Calif. It's a three-day event (April 3-5) with 18 holes of golf each day. University of Colorado and University of Oregon are the tournament hosts.
SCORING & TEE TIMES — Live scoring will be available on Golfstat with links found on www.PepperdineWaves.com. Tee times are set for an 8 a.m. PT start each day.
FIELD — In addition to #26 Pepperdine, the 17-team field includes tournament-hosts Colorado and #8 Oregon, #6 San Jose State, #9 Arizona State, #13 Texas A&M, #15 USC, #16 Northwestern, #22 Arizona, #24 Ohio State, #30 UCLA, #37 California, Washington State, Oregon State, San Francisco, Texas State and Washington.
PEPPERDINE LINEUP — Pairings will be made available on the Golfstat live scoring link when released.
EVENT HISTORY — Pepperdine has attended the tournament four times in history - 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The Waves' best team and individual finish came in the first year when the squad finished third out of 18 teams and alumna Hira Naveed finished tied for seventh.
RANKINGS — Golfstat has the Waves ranked #26 this week, while Golfweek has the Waves at #28 on the publication's rankings list.
Jeneath Wong ranks #47 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Lion Higo, Kaleiya Romero and Lauren Gomez currently rank #37, #193 and #200 respectively on the individual Golfstat rankings. In the Golfweek individual rankings, Higo ranks #48, and in the USGA Women's Amateur rankings, Wong ranks #46.
SPRING HIGHLIGHTS — Pepperdine won the first tournament of the Spring on March 27-29, dominating the Anuenue Spring Break Classic with an 18-under 846. Lion Higo and Reese Guzman both highlighted for the Waves as they each tied for 5th with a 7-under 209. The Waves put in an impressive performance at The Show at Spanish Trail, finishing second after posting better second and third rounds than any other teams. Jeneath Wong placed fourth with two rounds of 68 for a 5-under. Lion Higo also had a stellar performance, tying for fifth after shooting a 3-under and posting her second top-20 finish in as many tournaments. Yingzhi Zhu finished tied for 10th as well - her second time in the top-20 this season.
In early March, Pepperdine finished fourth at the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate Invitational. Three Waves finished in the top-20, led by Wong who posted her best finish in the blue and orange, tying for third. Higo and Romero ended the tournament tied-11th and tied-17th respectively. To begin the season, the Waves golfed at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge, finishing 9th among 16 teams, and besting #12 UCLA by four strokes. Higo led the Waves, finishing strong in the final round after posting four birdies and ending the round 2-under par. She tied for 17th overall with a 3-over 216.
RECORD BOOK WATCH — The Waves have been putting a dent on the record book this season. At the Anuenue Spring Break Classic, Pepperdine had the second-best 36-hole score in Pepperdine women's golf history with a 15-under, tied the third-best 54-hole score for the second time this season with an 18-under, and posted the fourth-best single round with an 11-under in the second round. In the Fall, the Waves had also tied for third for the 54-hole score, tied for 6th with a 9-under second round and put in the third-best 36-hole score with 12-under - all at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.
Individually, Lion Higo tied for fourth with a 10-under 54-hole score at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, while Reese Guzman tied for fifth with a 7-under 18-hole score in the second round at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic. Higo also currently ranks 7th in the program's career scoring average lists and is tied for fourth with 13 below-par rounds in a single season.
AUGUSTA NATIONAL — From March 29 through April 1, Jeneath Wong competed at the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur. The tournament featured 72 of the best women's amateur golfers in the world competing in over 54 holes of stroke play at the Champions Retreat Golf Club.
