Waves Continue to Capture Personal Records and Climb All-Time Lists

IRVINE, Calif. – The Pepperdine men's and women's track teams continued to climb the all-time list after competing at the Vince O'Boyle Track and Field Classic hosted by UC Irvine in Irvine, Calif., on Saturday. Additionally, senior Olivia Miller competed at the Moorpark Invitational on Friday afternoon.
 
On Friday, Miller (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles HS) competed in the women's 800m, winning the event with a time of 2:16.51, which is a new personal record. Miller also moved her name from sixth on the all-time list to third.
 
On Saturday, the first event for Pepperdine was the women's 1,500m, with Miller having the squad's fastest time clocking in at 4:36.15, which is also a new personal record, good for a fifth-place overall finish and moves her from third all-time to second. Miller's time was 1.38 seconds away from the school record, which is currently held by head coach Lauren Floris (2009-12). Sophomore Brooke Bakken (Norwalk, Wis./Tomah HS) and freshmen Caroline Graham (Hockessin, Del./Delaware Military Academy), Faith Talbott (McKinney, Texas/McKinney Boyd HS) and Nicole Hartung (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) all ran personal records in the women's 1,500m.
 
The second event of the day was the men's 1,500m with junior Johnathan Flint (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) crossing the finish line in a time of 3:56.06, which was good for a third overall finish. Freshman Joshua Bergers (Cohasset, Mass./IMG Academy) clocked in at 3:58.52, which was a first-place finish in his heat and seventh overall. Freshman Kai Newman (Temecula, Calif./Linfield Christian HS) also ran a personal record in the men's 1,500m.
 
Freshman Jenna Parsio (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro HS) competed in the women's 400m for the Waves, collecting a first-place finish in her heat with a time of 59.08 and moving her name from ninth all-time to seventh. In the men's 400m, junior Ryan Hemphill (Visalia, Calif./Redwood HS) also won his heat in a time of 50.04, which was 0.04 seconds away from the school record. Hemphill notches his name higher on the all-time list from 10th to second. The women's 100m was the next event for Pepperdine with freshman Mason Turner (Durango, Colo./Durango HS) crossing the line in a time of 14.12.
 
In the women's 800m, freshman Hannah Doering (Yorba Linda, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS) finished with a time of 2:45.63. The men's 800m followed and freshman Ryan Fabian (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard HS) earned a third-place overall finish in a time of 1:54.26. Sophomore Colin Proctor (Coppell, Texas/Coppell HS) won his heat in the men's 800m in a time of 1:57.37, which was also good for a sixth-place finish. Freshmen Spencer Mueller (Fresno, Calif./Clovis North HS) and Daniel Whitaker (Lexington, Ky./Lafayette HS) each ran personal records in the men's 800m. Mueller finished in a time of 1:54.95, which was good for fifth overall and stays sixth on the Pepperdine all-time list. Whitaker had a first-place showing in his heat in a time of 2:03.00.
 
The next event for Pepperdine in Irvine was the women's 400-meter hurdles. Sophomore Maddy Ortman (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor Christian HS) collected a second-place finish in her heat with a time of 1:08.38, and placed her ninth on the Pepperdine all-time list. In the women's 200m, sophomore Kaley Peterson (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis HS) clocked in at 25.38, which moves her from fifth on the all-time list to fourth. Freshman Mia Skuraton (Mendham, N.J./Perkiomen School) ran a personal record time of 26.80 in the women's 200m.
 
Junior William Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS) competed in the men's 200m finishing in a time of 22.28. In the last individual event of the day for Pepperdine, junior Elle Shrader (Boerne, Texas/Boerne-Samuel V. Champion HS) ran the women's 5,000m in a time of 19:48.27. Ortman, Parsio, Rocco and Peterson represented the Waves in the women's 4x400m relay with a time of 4:16.44.
 
The Waves will have a couple weeks off, before competing at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 12-15 in Walnut, Calif., and the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 13-15 in Azusa, Calif.
