SAN MATEO, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's basketball team placed two Waves on the All-West Coast Conference teams as Maxwell Lewis and Jevon Porter earned the honors, the league announced Wednesday.
Lewis (Las Vegas, Nev./AZ Compass Prep) landed a spot on the All-WCC Second Team and Porter (Columbia, Mo./Father Tolton Catholic) garnered All-WCC Freshman Team acclaim.
After averaging 17.1 points and 5.6 boards per contest, Lewis earned his second all-conference honor after being placed on the All-Freshman team last season. He currently sits sixth in the WCC in scoring and seventh in field goal percentage (46.8%) and gathered 13 games scoring 20-plus points– including a stretch of seven-straight contests with 20 or more. The sophomore set a new career high in points scored, going for two 30-piece games against Northern Arizona (12/3/23) and Pacific (1/7/23), including a career-high 14 rebounds in the matchup against the Tigers. Lewis was named the conference's Player of the Week on December 27 for his efforts in the Diamond Head Classic.
In his debut season, Porter left his mark in the WCC after achieving eight double-double games and was the only freshman in the conference to have gathered a single double-double on the year. He finished regular-season play tied for third on the WCC double-double leaderboard. The Columbia, Mo. native averaged 12.1 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds over the season, placing him sixth in the conference on the boards and seventh in blocked shots (27). He poured in a career-high 30 points and 10 rebounds in the Waves' win over BYU in Malibu, and became the hero of the day in Pepperdine's home matchup against Portland where he tipped in a Mike Mitchell Jr. baseline out of bounds pass with 0.6 seconds left for the win. Porter gathered three Freshman of the Week honors this season (12/27, 2/13, 2/27).
Last season, Houston Mallette, Mike Mitchell Jr. and Lewis were named to the All-Freshman team.
