
Alums West & Wilmot in Action at Pan American Cup

MALIBU, California – Two Pepperdine men's volleyball alums – Matt West and Austin Wilmot – are currently playing with the USA squad competing at the NORCECA Pan American Cup Final Six in Tepic, Mexico.
The Pan American Cup Final Six is a route for teams to qualify for the 2023 NORCECA Continental Championship, the 2023 Pan American Games and the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.
The U.S. dropped their first two matches against Canada (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) and Cuba (25-20, 28-26, 20-25, 23-25, 15-11). The Americans meet Puerto Rico today (Wednesday), Mexico on Thursday and the Dominican Republic on Friday. The semifinals and fifth-sixth matches will be Saturday, and the gold medal and bronze medal matches will be Sunday.
West (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood HS) is the most experienced player on the U.S. squad and has been named team captain. A 2015 graduate of Pepperdine, he played on the 2015 U.S. Pan American Games team. He's also played professionally since then, most recently for Germany's Berlin Recycling Volleys. He was a three-time AVCA All-American setter for the Waves, making the first team in 2013 and 2015 and the second team in 2014. He ended up second in Pepperdine history with 4,766 assists.
Wilmot (Valley Village, Calif./Crespi Carmelite HS/UC Irvine) played on the U.S. squad that finished fifth at the NORCECA Championships last summer. He started the first two matches at the Pan American Cup at middle blocker. Wilmot just wrapped up his playing career and was a three-time All-American for the Waves in his three seasons, making the second team in 2021 and honorable mention in 2020 and 2022. He hit .420 overall and averaged 1.93 kills per set.
