#16 Pepperdine to Compete at WCC Championships in Santa Monica

MALIBU, Calif. – The #16 Pepperdine beach volleyball team will make the short trip to Ocean Park Beach in Santa Monica, Calif. for the West Coast Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Waves enter the tournament as the #2 seed and will face Pacific on Friday to open the action.
WCC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Friday-Saturday (April 29-30) at Ocean Park Beach in Santa Monica, Calif.: First match: #16 Pepperdine (#2 seed) vs. Pacific (#7 seed) at 10:30 a.m.

WAVES WEATHER: On Friday, the weather in Santa Monica calls for 65º with mostly sunny skies and winds reaching 10 to 15 miles per hour. Saturday looks much the same with a high of 70º, a sunny disposition and winds running 10 to 15 mph.
SURF REPORT: The Waves have gone 19-10 overall this season with an 11-6 record on neutral sand. Melanie Paul and Madison Shields have led in the No. 1 position, posting a 22-7 overall record against opponents this season and going 8-2 in their last 10 matches played.  Simone Priebe and McKenna Thomas have been mainstays at the No. 2 position for Pepperdine, amassing an impressive 23-6 record in the slot and having gone 7-3 in their last 10 played.
The Waves' No. 3, 4 and 5 positions have varied throughout the season. Most recently, Peyton Lewis and Juju Quintero have played in the No. 3 slot and have amassed six wins for the Waves in the position, while going 9-13 as a pair overall. Kate Clermont and Cameron Baklenko have seen action recently in the No. 4 position and have gone 3-2 together since joining forces. Rio Frohoff and Savana Greene have also played together recently in the No. 5 position, collecting a solid 5-1 record to help Pepperdine.
OPPONENT NOTES FROM THE FIELD: The seeding for the tournament is: #5 LMU (26-7), #16 Pepperdine (19-10), Saint Mary's (15-16), Santa Clara (10-17), Portland (6-15), San Francisco (3-17) and Pacific (1-16).Â
