Waves Continue Outdoor Season This Weekend

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's and women's track teams will head to two different meets this weekend including the Astro Ai Distance Classic in Fullerton, Calif., and the Oxy Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic in Los Angeles, Calif.

On Friday, March 11, Pepperdine's Karl Winter and Kyle McCabe will compete at the Astro Ai Distance Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The meet will take place at the Titan Track Complex and will begin at 5 p.m. Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS) will run in the 5K and McCabe (Westminster, Colo./Holy Family HS) will run in the 10K.

On Saturday, March 12, the full Pepperdine men's and women's will compete in the Oxy Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic at the Bill Henry Olympic Track hosted by Occidental College. The running events will begin at 10 a.m.

Pepperdine finished its second outdoor meet of the season with a strong showing including a new school record set and a first-place finish in the 1,500 meters.

Freshman Thomas Lewer (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs HS) set a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles, collecting a time of 58.88, which was 0.78 faster than the previous record set in 2019. It was also Lewer's first time running the event in college. Additionally, Winter had a first-place finish in the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:50.68, which was a new meet record for himself. Winter currently holds the school record in the 1,500 meters which he set in 2021.
Freshman Colin Proctor (Coppell, Texas/Coppell HS) had two heat wins in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:07.35 and the 800 meters posting a time of 2:01.92. Junior Jaad Abduljawad (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia/Cal Coast Academy) collected a heat win in the 100 meters finishing in a time of 11.19, which is also a personal record.

On the women's side, freshman Kaley Peterson (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis High School) also notched two heat wins in the 100 meters and 200 meters. Peterson ran the 100 meters in a time of 12:43 and posted a time of 25.29 in the 200 meters. Freshman Abigail Howard (Jefferson, Ga./Jefferson HS) finished second in her heat in the 100-meter hurdles clocking in at 17.23 and freshman Lauren Rocco (Port Orange, Fla./Spruce Creek HS) marked a new personal record in the 100 meters finishing in a time of 17.68. Senior Annelies Ondersma (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./University Liggett School) notched an eighth-place finish in her heat in the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:59.18.
