Waves Start Outdoor Season at Rossi Relays

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine men's and women's track team will travel inland to kick off the outdoor season at the Rossi Relays in Claremont, Calif., on Saturday, Feb. 26.

The meet will be hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at the Burns Track Complex in Claremont, Calif., with running events beginning at 11:30 a.m.

After three indoor meets for the women, this will be the first competition of the season for the Pepperdine men.

LAST MEET
Â
The Waves closed out the indoor season at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational at the University of New Mexico.

Freshman Kaley Peterson (Sunnyvale, Calif./Saint Francis HS) was the top performer for Pepperdine in the 60 meters clocking in at 7.81, only 0.09 seconds away from setting a new school record, which currently is 7.72 held by Izzy Connell. Freshman Maddy Ortman (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor Christian HS) had the best time in the 60-meter hurdles, collecting a time of 9.81, which is currently her season best. Ortman also had the best time in the 200 meters in a time of 27.43.

Senior Tiffany Egbo (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland HS) beat her personal record in the 400 meters and had the team's best showing with a time of 1:02.17. Junior Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS), the current school record holder for the 3,000 meters, finished in a time of 11:19.83 for the Waves. Danley also had Pepperdine's best time in the indoor mile, with a time of 5:33.01. Freshman Brooke Bakken (Norwalk, Wis./Tomah HS) represented the Waves in the 800 meters in a time of 2:51.95. Pepperdine's 4x400m team consisted of Egbo, freshman Lauren Rocco (Port Orange, Fla./Spruce Creek HS), senior Riley Wright (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) and Peterson, who clocked in at a time of 4:13.89.

Senior Karl Winter (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's HS) also raced unattached at the Washington Husky Classic in the mile, finishing in a time of 4:02.36. His mile time would have set a new school record, had he not been racing unattached.
