MALIBU, Calif. – Head Coach Jonathan Winder hired Hardy Wooldridge to the Pepperdine men's volleyball team's coaching staff, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
"I am thrilled to become a part of such a historic program here at Pepperdine," said Wooldridge. "Everyone I've met through this hiring process has exuded an infectious passion for Pepperdine and its mission.
"I am looking forward to getting to know the team, the alumni and engaging with the volleyball community in Malibu. I can't wait for the season to get rolling!"
Wooldridge most recently had been the associate head coach of the Fresno State women's indoor program since 2018, serving under Winder for four seasons. The two also previously worked on the sidelines together at the University of Washington. While coaching the Huskies, the pair helped lead the program to a Pac-12 Championship and NCAA Elite 8 appearance.
"Hardy is an exceptional teacher on the court and one of the best I've ever been around with analytics," said Winder. "His ability to develop the talent of everyone on our roster will be incredibly valuable for our program and his skill set in analytics will allow our team to perform at its best year after year. I am proud to have Hardy on our staff and excited to get this season started!"
While on the sidelines for Fresno State, the team went 56-47 between 2018-21. The squad produced 11 All-Mountain West Conference honorees, including a program-record four in 2018.
In 2018, the Bulldogs broke the school record for most conference wins in school history and gave the program its first-ever top-two finish in the league after producing a 13-5 Mountain West record and going 22-11 overall. The team went on to play in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, earning the program's first postseason selection since 2002, and a first-round win over UC Santa Barbara gave the Bulldogs their first postseason victory since 1995.
Fresno State posted another top-half finish in the Mountain West in the 2020 campaign, which was pushed to spring 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Bulldogs tied for fourth place.
Wooldridge served as a volunteer assistant coach for two seasons while at Washington, helping coach the serving, passing and defensive components of the team, while additionally coordinating video and scouting resources. During that time, he also coached Sudden Impact Volleyball Club and served as a court lead coach at the University of Washington volleyball camps.
From 2008-11, prior to his stint in Washington, Wooldridge was the head coach of the Tesoro High School freshman squad and the U15 boys' team for Balboa Bay Volleyball Club.
A native of Mission Viejo, Wooldridge began his collegiate playing career at Thompson Rivers University in British Columbia, Canada. He played oversees for Colombier Volley LNB in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He completed his undergraduate degree at University of Washington in 2016.
