MALIBU, Calif. – The #13 Pepperdine women's soccer team earned its fourth shutout of the season, defeating UC Santa Barbara 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Three different Waves (7-1-0) found the back of the net, including
Trinity Watson and
Joelle Anderson who scored their goals within a minute of each other, while Anderson also collected an assist on a
Calista Reyes goal right out of halftime.
It was another impressive performance for the Waves, who outshot the Gauchos (1-4-2) 17-2 and now have outshot every opponent they faced this season.
GOALS
Pepperdine 11': The Waves were fouled and earned a free kick. Watson (Ocean Beach, Calif./Point Loma HS) lined up on the left side of the box 30 yards out and drilled one off the bottom crossbar beating the Gaucho goalkeeper. It was Watson's third goal of the season.
Pepperdine 12': Redshirt freshman
Kam Pickett (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos HS) beat the Gaucho defender with a turn around move then passed it downfield to sophomore forward
Tori Waldeck (Newhall, Calif./Hart HS), who sent a cross to Anderson (San Jose, Calif./The Harker School). Anderson tapped the beautiful pass with her left foot right past the goalkeeper. It was Anderson's fifth goal of the season and fourth goal in four consecutive games.

Pepperdine Coach
Tim Ward said: "I'm really proud of the performance today. I have a lot of respect for Santa Barbara and their staff, they are coming off a result that we thought they were going to be hungry and fired up. I think what we were most proud of today is the energy that we started with was excellent. To get an early goal always calms the nerves and helps people play more relaxed. Trinity does what Trinity does on set pieces, she's a machine. The second goal was absolutely world-class, the whole goal, the build up, the cross and the finish, it's just straight out of a textbook.
"They sat in and made it difficult to play through, but it might not be the most exciting, but we had to just keep the ball. Patience was the key to today's performance. In the second half we continued to be patient. Calista's goal, she deserved, what a great finish. We had some really nice moments, but then again through the course of 45 minutes, the way they were set up, it wasn't like we were going to get a ton of chances, but we had some really good sequences where I thought we created some excellent opportunities to score. I'm just really proud of all the girls, everybody's performance whether they were on the field or sideline. The energy was great today and just a great result."
