Cook, Young Selected in 2021 MLB Draft

MALIBU, Calif.Billy Cook and Wyatt Young highlighted the Pepperdine baseball team's presence in the 2021 MLB Draft, which concluded on Tuesday morning. 
 
Cook was the Waves' highest drafted player since the 2017 season, having been selected in the 10th round by the Baltimore Orioles. Young was drafted in the 15th round by the New York Mets. 
 
Cook, originally from Monument, Colo., made an immediate impact for the Waves as a freshman in 2018 and continued to succeed on the field throughout four years in the navy and orange.  He is tied for ninth in home runs at Pepperdine with 26 and marked a .286 career batting average with 118 hits, including 18 doubles and seven triples.  He drove in 90 runs and scored 85 after appearing in 122 games with 109 starts.  Cook was an All-WCC first teamer as a senior and performed highly in the classroom all four years, marking three WCC All-Academic honorable mention nods.
 
Young, a Honolulu, Hawai'i native, appeared in 109 games in his three seasons for the Waves, all starts.  He batted .318 with 150 hits including 15 doubles, one triple and five home runs and scored 87 runs, driving in 49 more.  In 2019, he earned All-WCC honorable mention recognition and a WCC All-Freshman team nod.
