Malibu, Calif. — The Pepperdine track team begins the first of three scheduled meets at Azusa Pacific at the APU Invitational and Distance Carnival on Saturday.
Brandon Davis (Troy, Mich./Troy HS), Ryan Hemphill (Visalia, Calif./Redwood HS) and Jaad Abduljawad (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia/Cal Coast Academy) will kick off the action for the Waves in the 400-meter dash, which is scheduled to start around 3:45 p.m. Approximately five hours later, junior Key Pearson (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Vistamar School) will close out the meet under the lights in the women's 5K.
As it stands, 17 schools are scheduled to attend Saturday's meet, including seven Division I schools. On the women's side, all seven of the WCC's California schools — Loyola Marymount, Pacific, Pepperdine, Saint Mary's, San Diego, San Francisco and Santa Clara — will be present. Only five men's D1 programs, including Pepperdine, will compete at Saturday's meet.
Per APU policy, spectators will not be permitted.
LAST LAP
In only her second 100-meter dash in a Pepperdine uniform, Kennedy Kerr (West Hempstead, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a 12.47 at the Westmont Collegiate Classic on March 27. Distance-wise, freshman Skylar Davis (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Arts Academy) ran the fastest 5K time of the year for Pepperdine's women's track team with a 19:05.50. That time was also Davis's lifetime-best in the event.
Over on the men's side, Brandon Davis placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a 50.90 — only 11-hundredths of a second off of his school record. He will have another chance to reset his record on Saturday.Â
