Azusa, Calif. — Brandon Davis broke the school record in the 400-meter dash to highlight the Pepperdine track team's first day at Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday.
Davis (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) ran a 50.21, which not only placed fifth in a stacked second heat, but also broke the previous school record by 47-hundredths of a second. The senior held the school record going into this season; this year, he has shaved 58-hundredths of a second off of his previous collegiate best.
William Watkins (Mill Valley, Calif./Marin Catholic HS), who qualified for the open 100-meter dash, will join Davis as the only other sprinter racing in the finals tomorrow.
